Analsying double page spread from Vibe

The magazines i have analysed do not link to the type genre I am doing for my magazine as it Bhangra. This is because Bhangra magazines are not released in the media industry yet, therefore i have used these magazines to inspire me and help me create my own.

In the background, there is a large an outstanding "V" as the logo to show this is part of "Vibe" magazine. This is very effective as it catches your eye and emphasizes the page. Also the colours used are based on those of the front cover as they stick to a blue and grey effect, showing it is consistent. The list of where to find pages or articles is on the right hand side in fairly big black font making it easy for the reader . The instructions it gives you are fairly simple as it tells you the article involved and then gives a number for the page to find it on. It also has sub sections: Features and Fashion. this makes  navigation easier as the reader can find what they want much easily.
In the bottom right hand corner of the page, there are a couple of bullet points explaining the pictures on the front cover and also the contents page. It tells you the artists name and where the picture was taken, etc.
The main image on the page is more or less central in the page so the reader is able to see it straight away. Its big and stands out due to size and colour or the picture. Also another feature that stands out in the picture is the red heart held on him as the majority of the page is in blue or grey and the heart is coloured in red therefore standing out well.
The title is presented in an odd way as it is unique as it isn't in written in the typical way, however is  affective as it starts a new line twice throughout the word, this also stands out as it is in a bold, black and big font.

This double page spread is from Vibe magazine and is an article on Solange Knowles. It uses a very basic colour scheme of contrasting colours such as blue, black and red. These colours are striking and attract the reader’s attention as they go well together and compliment the main image as it is the only thing in colour. Also, it is slightly off centre and larger than the rest of the images, giving the readers something to look at as it stands out among anything else on the page. The use of the colour blue highlights the artist’s name means that the readers are able to find out who the article is about as the different colour distinguishes this. The woman used is stereotypically conforming to the genre that is hip hop as she is of black origin and she is showing flesh and standing in a sexual way with her hands on her back and pushing the rest of her body forward.
The article is on both pages; however more text is on the first page. This is because the main image is on the other page, therefore showing it is balanced following the conventions of a magazine. There is a lot of text included, however is balanced with the little image along the top half of the magazine. These images are similar to the main iamge, however the poses are different. This shows how the target audience may also be fashionable as Solange is dressed to a high standard.

Analysing double page spread from Brit Asian magazine

This double page spread is from the magazine Brit Asian which is Bhangra magazine and is only available online. It focuses on the runners up from Britain’s got Talent; Signature who are an Asian dance group. On the first page, it consists of an image of the main member of Signature who is on stage and is dancing. Next to this, is says “signature workin” with social networking sites underneath, implying that Signature are part of these sites and have also gained more fame form these sites.  On the other page, it has videos of the group performing some of their dances. This is unconventional as magazines do not include videos; however this magazine includes videos in many of its other articles as it’s only to be viewed online. Also, the text is in a paragraph, and not in columns also making the magazine unconventional, as magazine double page spreads consist of text in two/three columns.
It consists of a minimum amount of colours; pink, white, black and grey. This is conventional and is so the magazine doesn’t look too busy and clash. Also, the fact that the double page spread is even (a picture on one side and text on the other) shows that it is conventional as it is balanced like a double page spread should be.  The colour pink, is used for the title of the magazine, and is linked with the social networking emotions. This is so the colours go well together and link, in order for the magazine to look professional. The fact that the header says "day and night" shows an image of Signature performing at night, (left) and in the day (right). This shows they are diverse and able to work whenever, and attract a wide audience for both children and adults.
At the bottom of the page, it has different sub titles which allow the reader to back to website and view other issues or pages of the magazine. This is unconventional as general magazines don't allow you to do this as their paper based. It is almost similar to a contents page as it allows you to go back and forth to different pages online, whereas in a general magazine you would be able to refer back to the contents page and see what else is included in the magazine.

Analysing of double page spread from NME

This double page spread is from the magazine NME and includes a young boy band; The Teenagers. The audience are able to recognise this from the title at the top as it's bold and stands out and as it's the name of the band and tells the audience who the article is about. One side of the page consists of an image which is also of the band. This is conventional as magazines usually have one side as an image, the other with text in order for the magazine to be balanced.

The main image is of the band lying on a bed. As they are called the "The Teenagers" the picture symbolises the stereotypical views of what people think; "lazy". There has been three main colours used; black blue and white. This is conventional as magazines tend to used three/four colours in order for it to look simple and professional. The title (masthead) is black with a blue background which stands out and is eye catching. It is also centred which is clear and easy to read. This is unconventional as the title is in the first half of the page, as well as the second half, making it unbalanced.

On the right hand side, the page is equally split into two as it has an article on the band and an article on what the public are talking about. The patches of blue highlight the key points of the article, and the use of the white writing on the black background creates a stylish yet simplistic appearance. The page also contrasts with the black and white to show that the page is split into two, implying that two different things are being talked about. In addition, the columns of writing are clear and easy to read as they are in columns and split up into sections, making it easier for the audience to read.

Analysis of the magazine Brit Asian

The genre of this magazine is Bhangra, yet includes British music. We know this because the title relates back to the Asian culture for the word "Asian", however has the word "Brit" in front of it showing that the magazines includes a variety of both British and Asian music.  The target audience of this magazine is aimed at people who enjoy listening to Bhangra and British music, therefore having a wider target audience, but is mainly teenagers to the age of mid 20's. The main image also shows this because young girls admire Jay Sean and young boys may aspire to be like him. Also, he started out as a Bhangra singer, however is now associated with artists such as Lil Wayne, showing he is diverse.

The main image is of Jay Sean, a famous r n b/ Bhangra artist. As he is on the front cover, it may show that the magazine could relate to r n  b, however the fact that the title is "Brit Asian" shows that the magazine relates to the Bhangra music he sings. He is dressed all in black which may connote mystery, especially as he is wearing glasses. Also, it shows that the colour black is versatile, therefore can relate to both genres of music as they're so opposite to one another. The colour gold has also been used in order to contrast against the black, as both colours look good together. Also, the colour gold connotes royalty and shows importance, therefore the colour reflects the importance of Jay Sean in both the British and Asian music culture.

As the image of Jay Sean is in front of the title, it shows that the magazine "Brit Asian" is quite popular because if people look at the magazine, they will instantly know what magazine it is. There isn't any strap lines included on the front cover, as it only includes the main story; "Jay Sean" Also, it shows a quote from him, which is in italics showing it is importance, even though the font isn't that big. This is in order for it to stand out from the rest of the text s it is in a different font. This shows that the magazine revolves around him and his music. In addition, there is also a puff included, in the bottom right hand corner, along with a skyline. All of the text used except for the mast head is in capital letters, wheres as the mast head is in lower case letters. This is to show that even though the mast head is in lower case letters, it still stands out more than the rest of the copy.
